Chapter 9
Otis and Polutropos washed ashore near Malaga Cove. They headed up the beach towards home. Along the way they passed a private club that was having a costume party on the terrace.
A woman wearing a mask came down the steep stone path and motioned for Otis to come to her. He thought he was going to be scolded for trespassing on the private beach, but instead he was handed a bundle.
"You'll catch your death in those wet clothes. These are rags, but they are clean and dry," the mysterious beauty said.
Otis thanked her and noticed she was wearing the same style of sandals as the statue of Athena on the ocean floor. In a flash she was already half way up the steep stone staircase.
Otis ducked into a cave and quickly got out of the wet tuxedo. He changed into the dry clothes, tied the hood of the stained, torn sweat shirt and raced up the beach towards home with Polutropos safely zipped up inside his shirt.
In the distance he could see a great plume of smoke coming from the back yard of his home.
